Build this House 7 of 7, bottomline.

Joshua 24:15 “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua essentially says: “You do what you like. If you’re going to serve the gods of this world, have at it.  If you’re going to serve the Lord, great.  Pick a side, and get off the fence.  Draw your line in the sand once and for all.  And while I’ve got your attention, let me be clear: as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!”

In this series of posts I’ve said a lot about my parents.  I’ve probably even idealized them a bit.  But for all the talk of strategy and methods, let me be really clear about why they were great parents: There was never a doubt, not even for a fleeting moment, that as for our house we were going to serve the Lord.

I never doubted my faith because the power of Jesus to transform and enrich our lives was constantly on display in our home, through our parents.  No, they weren’t perfect…but they were rock solid and absolutely unwavering.  Jesus was at the center of our home because he was at the center of their lives.  Bottomline.
