Today one of my family’s best friends is moving away. Casey Alexander is heading south to the ATL. It’s God’s doing, so I’m for it…but we’re pretty sad at the McCarter house.
But I’m not worried about us…I’m worried about the church. Casey, and people like her, make churches go. You see, people come to churches for all sorts of reasons (a sincere invite, they like the music, heard the kids ministry was great, etc.), but they stay because of Casey.
People come to church for all sorts of reasons, but they stay because of Casey.
They stay because Casey…
- greets them sincerely,
- then invites them to her LifeGroup,
- and then cooks them a meal,
- and then shares her testimony with them,
- and then helps them out when they’re in a jam,
- and then brings them along for karaoke night,
- and then rejoices with them when they rejoice,
- and then mourns with them when they mourn…
I happen to know that Casey’s done all of those things in the last week.
So it’s an all call: I figure it’ll take 5-10 people to replace her. 5-10 people who are willing to serve others ahead of themselves, in the name of Jesus, for the Kingdom of God, no matter what it takes.
Maybe 15.
So true. We talk about this all of the time. Casey truly walks the walk, maybe more than anyone I know. She is truly been a sister in Christ, a partner in ministry, a confidant, a prayer warrior, a friend. She has spurred me on and, as iron sharpens iron, has sharpened me in many ways. She’s been here from the beginning and it’s just hard to imagine the Vineyard without her. I love her and will miss her and can’t help but to pray that she will come back. However, I know that wherever she lands, whether near or far, we will be running the race together. Love you, girl! I’m excited about all that lies ahead for you.
I don’t think it’s bad to pray for her to come back. She’s gonna do what God tells her to do either way. I know, because I prayed that she wouldn’t leave in the first place!
